Apple Print Buddies

Every September I look for more things to do with apples.  For this fun kid’s craft we make paint prints of our apple and transform them into cool buddies and other things.  Try our fun apple buddies and then try to come up with your own variations!   Check out our other Kidfunideas Apple week activities too.

What you'll need:

  • Apples

  • 11 x 18 inch sheet of white construction paper

  • Plastic knife to cut the apple in half and make a handle

  • Scissors

  • Glue Stick

  • Marker

  • Kidfunideas apple pattern

  • Craft Paint and foam brush

How to make it:

  1. Start by cutting your apple in half, either down the middle by the stem or in half through the middle.  Both will give you a different print when dipped in paint.

  2. Print out the Apple print sheet and cut out the pictures.  Notice that something is missing on each picture.  Where the missing item is, we will be making a print with the apples.  Glue down the pictures leaving room for the apple prints.  For example – Paste down the bicycle frame to your picture leaving room for the wheels.

  3. Cut your apple in half through the middle.  To make a handle for the apple, turn your apple cut side down and, leaving about an inch and a half in the very center cut down one inch and then from the side cut in to the downward cut and remove the notch.  Repeat this on the other side.

  4. Dip your apple cut side down in whatever color paint you like and make an apple stamp print where the missing item is.  On the bike, the stamp goes where the wheels are missing.

There are lots of possibilities for all kinds of apple prints.
Besides these shapes you can try making:  flowers, caterpillars, bird house opening, etc.  Anything that has a circle in it can be made with an apple print.  Try some of your own ideas too!  Paging through magazine can give you all kinds of pictures to choose from.
