Chicks in the Barnyard

Spring is here and little chicks are running loose in the barnyard!  This is a quick and simple springtime kid’s craft.  We are making our chicks using plastic forks, fingerprints, yellow paint, or mustard.  This is the perfect spring or Easter-themed project.  Find more fun Spring themed projects at Kidfunideas.com

What you'll need:

  • Yellow paint (Plain yellow mustard can be substituted)

  • White construction paper

  • Plastic fork

  • Small piece of red construction paper for the barn or print and color included barn image

  • Crayons

  • Googly eyeballs (optional)

  • Scissors

  • Black marker

  • Glue stick

How to make it:

  1. Print out the template for the barn.  Cut out one barn from red construction paper and glue it to your white paper.  You can draw in details on your barn like a door or windows.  If you don’t have red construction paper you can print out the barn template and color it in with red crayon.  Then glue it to your barn paper, or, draw a barn of your own directly onto the paper.

  2. Squirt out yellow paint or kitchen yellow mustard into a shallow bowl and dip the ends of the fork into the paint.  Tap around the areas of each chick to fill in its fluffy body.  If you want to make the bodies of the chicks first, wait until the paint is dry before drawing in your beak, legs, and eyes.

  3. If you want to make smaller tiny chicks, dip your thumb or pointer finger into the paint and make a small oval with your paint onto the paper and then draw in the eyes, beak, and legs.

  4. Once your yellow paint is dry, you can fill in as many details as you like.  You can add grass, a sun, a fence, or trees with crayons or markers.

  5. If you have googly eyeballs you can add them as well.
