A little sleight of hand makes this a fun trick for young kids! This is one of many fun kid craft projects and activities for beginner magicians. Check out our other kid magic theme projects and put on your own magic show!
What you'll need:
-
2 Round Coffee Filters
-
Tissue Paper: 2 different colors (we used orange and yellow)
-
2 Green Pipe cleaners
-
Scissors
-
1 Green Crayon
-
Small Cloth to cover
How to make it:
-
With a green crayon, color the two round coffee filters on both sides. You can add leaves if you like.
-
Take the tissue paper and cut 3- 3 x 4” pieces of tissue for each flower. Choose two different colors. Stack them and fold them accordion style as if you were making a fan.
-
Take one pipe cleaner and fold the middle of the pipe cleaner around the center of each of the stacks of tissues. Unfold and fluff the tissues to make the flowers.
-
Fit each flower stem through the middle of one coffee filter.
-
Twist the 2 flower stems together joining the pipe cleaners between the 2 filters.
-
Now you are ready to run your trick. Set the flower on a table with the yellow flower showing. The coffee filters should cover the orange flower below like a skirt.
-
Tell your audience that you will now change the color of the flower and make it yellow.
-
Cover your flower with your cloth and say your magic words.
-
You can tap it gently with the magic wand if you like. Now, grab the top of the covered flower, including the cloth, and turn it over to expose the orange flower.
-
Place the orange flower on the table with the coffee filter covering the yellow flower – Presto!
