Shark Cornhole Game

Here's a fun way to make a cornhole game  with recycled materials.  We used a cardboard box, antiseptic wipes containers, paper and crayons to make a fun indoor cornhole game.  Check out our other Kidfunideas craft projects too.

What you'll need for mariachis:

·        Study box without a lid (or, remove flaps and lid from a box)

·        Duct tape

·        Blue Paper

·        White Paper

·        Black marker

·        Plastic baggies and twist tie

·        Dry rice or beans

·        Scissors

·        Glue Stick

How to make it:

1.     Remove the lid and flaps from a large heavy-duty cardboard box.  We used a box  we got from Costco when they loaded our groceries.  It had no lid and was like a tray.

2.     Take your blue paper (We used a 12 x 18” piece because we had a large rectangular box) and draw the outline of your shark with a black marker.  It should be roughly bullet-shaped.  Draw in a large opening for the mouth and two eyes.

3.     Carefully cut out your mouth shape and set it aside (don’t throw it out because we will use that later to create our teeth). Cut out the shark body.  Take your box and turn it over to the bottom side.  Place the shark cutout on the bottom of your box and trace out the shape of the mouth onto the cardboard box.

4.     Have an adult cut out the shape of the mouth.  It can be tricky to cut out a shape from heavy cardboard so it’s best to leave this step to an adult.

5.     Once your mouth shape is cut out, glue your shark body to the bottom of the box matching up the hole on your shark body with the hole on the box.

6.     To make the teeth: get out a piece of white paper and lay your trimmed-out mouth shape on top of the white paper.  This will show you how big of a hole you have for a mouth.  Draw teeth above and below the shape of the mouth and cut them out.  Glue them to your shark.

7.     Next, to make the water, take a large piece of white paper(as wide as your box) and draw a wavy line all the way across the paper.  Cut away the paper above the wave and color in with crayon the blue where the ocean is.  Lay the wave paper on top of your shark picture below the mouth.  Glue it to the box on the front and tape down the sides of the paper that hang over the edges of the box with strong tape like duct tape.

8.     Take 2 empty antiseptic wipes containers or a Kleenex box and tape them into each corner of the inside of the box at the edges where the shark head is.  This will give you a slanted box when you flip it over.

9.     To make the bean bags: Cut out some little fish shapes from construction paper.  Draw on a face.  Each should be about 2-1/2” round.  Cut out your fish.  Open up your sandwich bag and fit your fish shape face side first into one corner.  Add about a tablespoon of beans or rice into the bag on the opposite side of the face.  Gather up the edges around the fish and at the tail, take a twist tie and go around the tail of the fish.  Cut off the excess bag. You should be able to make 2 fish from each bag.

How to play:

Place your Shark Cornhole game in an open area with the head of the shark farthest away from you.  Stand back about 4 feet and take turns tossing the fish bean bags seeing if you can get them into the shark’s mouth.  The person who makes the most fish into the shark’s mouth wins.
