This clever batter is swinging for the fences like magic.  Kids are always impressed by this simple optical illusion that tricks the eye and makes the batter appear to swing at the pitch.  Try this as a birthday party favor or activity and check out our other Kidfunideas Baseball themed projects too!

What you'll need:

• Corrugated cardboard

• Rounded lollypop stick                                                      

• Glue Stick

• Scissors

• Crayons or colored pencils to decorate

• Swinging batter printout

• ​

How to make it:

1. Print out the Swinging batter printouts.  You will need both pictures to do this project.

2. Cut out a piece of corrugated cardboard the same size as the border around the batter in such a way that the openings in the cardboard are at the base and top of your batter.

3. Insert your lollipop stick into one of the holes in the center of the cardboard about 2 inches.

4. Trim out your batters.  Color the batters if you like or, leave them black and white.

5. Paste one batter on each side of the cardboard, lining them up.

To work this trick, put the stick between your palms and spin the picture.  Look at your batter and the picture seems to move right before your eyes as the batter swings at the pitch.
