Dr. Seuss Green Ham Treats

Only in the land of Dr. Seuss would eating green ham be just the right treat!  These tasty treats are the perfect companion project for our Dr. Seuss Green Egg cookies.  Make a bunch to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and nibble while you read the book! They look so cute and are really simple to make.

What you'll need:

  • 8 cups Crispy Rice cereal

  • 1- 10 ounce package White Marshmallows

  • Nonstick cooking spray

  • 4 Tablespoon butter or margarine

  • Plastic wrap

  • Green gummy saver candy (one per ham)

  • Green Food coloring

How to make it:

In a large cooking pot melt the butter and add the marshmallows.  Stir on medium heat until the marshmallows are melted.  Once the marshmallows are melted, take your pot off the heat and add 4 – 8 drops of green food coloring to the melted marshmallows stirring to combine.

Add your cereal and stir until fully coated.  Spray a large bowl (like a popcorn bowl with nonstick spray and dup the mixture into the bowl to cool.  When the mixture has cooled for about 5 minutes, you can form your hams. Take a piece of plastic wrap and place it on the counter.

This is a messy job, and the cereal mixture will stick to your hands.  To avoid over sticking, hold your hands over the sink and have an adult spray your palms and fingertips with nonstick spray.  Scoop out about a cup of cereal into your hands to form your ham - small on one end and larger on the other.  Insert your gummy candy circle into the large end on the side to be the ham bone.  When your ham is the shape you want, place it onto the plastic wrap and wrap it up if you are saving it for later, or onto a plate for a treat.
