Here’s a fun Scarecrow kid’s craft inspired by one of our favorite Halloween books – The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams.  Read the book and then make the scarecrow afterward.  We use metal paper fasteners so all the pieces can move.  This makes a great Halloween decoration and is lots of fun to make.

 

What you'll need:

• Scarecrow printout

• Glue Stick                                                     

• Construction paper or cardstock

• Optional: laminator

• Scissors

• 8 - 1 inch metal paper fasteners

• Strong tape like masking tape or duct tape

• Hole punch

• 1 Milkshake straw or string for hanging

 

How to make it:

1. Print out the Scarecrow pieces.  Trim out the pieces and glue them to cardstock.  Glue the hat to the Scarecrow.  Paste them onto the cardstock or construction paper.  Trim away the excess paper.

2. Optional:  If you like you can also laminate the scarecrow pieces to make them more durable.   Trim away excess lamination.

3. Use your hole punch to make holes in the pieces where there are blue dots to connect them. 

4. Insert your metal paper fasteners bending them open on the back. 

5. If you would like to hang your scarecrow, make a hole with your paper punch at the top of the hat and run a length of string and tie it off with a knot.

6. If you would like to use your scarecrow as a puppet, take your milkshake straw and tape it to the back of the hat with one piece of tape on either side of the straw.

That’s it!  Now you have a scarecrow with two shoes going clomp, clomp, pants that wiggle, wiggle, shirt shake, shaking, gloves going clap, clap, hat nod nodding and one scary pumpkin head going Boo, Boo!
