What you'll need:
-
Construction Paper: Black and Pink
-
Pom Poms: One large white, one small pink
-
White Pipe cleaner
-
Googly Eyes
-
White glue or hot glue, glue stick
-
Tape
-
Black string
-
Scissors
-
1 Toilet paper tube
-
Paint: Black & Paintbrush
-
Small piece of cardstock or cardboard
-
Hat template pattern
How to make it:
-
Paint the inside of the tube with black paint & set it aside to dry.
-
Cut down one side of the tube ¾” all the way around.
-
Fold the cut edges down toward the center and secure them with hot glue or tape.
-
For the hat: Download pattern for the hat pieces. You will need 2 small black circles; one large black circle for the hat brim, and a 3 ½ x 6” piece around the hat. You will also need a sash piece 2” x 6” of a different color.
-
To make the hat brim, take the large black circle and trace a circle the size of the small circle in the middle. Cut pie-like slits in the inner circle. This will allow you to slide the brim onto the hat with the edges pointing up the tube. Secure with tape.
-
Attach the black paper rectangle to cover the brim slits and secure with tape or hot glue.
-
Now attach the hat sash and attach it with tape or glue.
-
Using the small circle pattern, cut 2 circles of black construction paper and one out of light cardboard or cardstock. Glue or tape one black circle to cover the top of the hat.
-
Glue one black circle to the cardboard & punch a hole in the center.
-
To Make the Rabbit face: Glue googly eyes and a pink pom pom for the nose to the white pom pom. Let dry.
-
Cut a 4” piece of black string and knot it into a loop.
-
To Make the Ears, take the pipe cleaner, shape 2 ear loops towards the middle like you would it tying shoes. Twist each loop to itself and then to each other.
-
Take the ends of the pipe cleaner and wrap it around the bunny head, threading the black string loop onto the end. Twist the pipe cleaner underneath the head to secure.
-
Thread the string loop through the cardboard. Insert the bunny head ears first into the hat and check to make sure the string doesn’t protrude past the end of the hat. If it is ok, pull the rabbit out and glue the head to the cardboard circle. Let dry. Now you are ready to pull the rabbit out of the hat.
To run this magic trick, insert the rabbit into the hat pushing the string to the side of the hat. Let your audience know you are going to pull a rabbit from a hat
