This small token for Mom is an instant keepsake.  It’s an easy craft for Mother’s Day that uses a clever photo and a sweet poem to make Mom feel super special.  Mom is sure to love this Hug box for years to come.

 

 What you'll need:

• Small Box with a lid (box should measure at least 2 ¾ “.  (Tip:  If you are doing this for a big group, you can reuse individual cereal boxes from the Cereal variety pack)

• Colored craft tissue

• Mod Podge and foam brush

• Kidfunideas Hug Box Poem

• Photo of child – One with arms outstretched is preferred

• Laminator or Clear plastic packing tape

• Scissors

• Glue stick

 

How to make it:

1. Take the photo of the child and trim away the background – laminate and trim away the excess lamination.  Print out, trim and laminate the hug box poem.  If you do not have access to a laminating machine, you can cover your photo and poem with clear plastic packing tape and trim away the excess.

2. Choose a box for your project.  If you are using a recycled individual cereal box, carefully open it up and flatten it with the writing side up.  To cover any writing on the outside of the box and to make your box look special, we will be gluing on colored tissue squares with Mod Podge.  For the best results work in small sections applying a layer of the Mod Podge and laying a tissue square on top, smoothing it out with your foam brush.  Continue to layer tissue squares on your box until the entire box is covered and any writing is not visible.  Let your box dry.  If you have a pretty box without writing on it you can skip this step.

3. If you are using a box with a detachable lid like an old IPhone box, glue your Hug Poem to the top of the box with glue stick.  Nestle your hug photo inside the box with a little tissue in the inside bottom of your box.  Close the box and you are done.

4. If you are using a box without a detachable lid like a recycled cereal box, Use tape to reattach the flaps and sides of the small ends.  Bend the folds on the box so that they are able to open and close easily.    Attach your Hug Poem to either the top of the box or, nestle it inside with the photo.    Add a pretty ribbon and tie with a bow and you are done.
