These adorable little Ladybugs are going to a fun picnic just like in the Sesame Street Ladybug picnic song.  It’s a fun kid’s craft that goes hand in hand with talking about how useful ladybugs are in a garden and reinforcing counting in a fun way.  Cut out the ladybugs and make a picture, or use a laminator and red plastic drink cup to make a 3D version that you can use to play with. 

 

 

What you'll need:

• Ladybug picnic printout

• 12 x 18” piece of green construction paper

• Glue Stick

• Scissors

• Red Plastic drink cup

• Tape

• Crayons or colored pencils to decorate for the black and white version – or, use the full-color version for a faster picture.

• Optional:  Laminator

How to make it:  (For the picture version)

 

1. If you are using the black and white version, print out the ladybugs and color with crayons, colored pencils, or markers and cut them out.   If you are using the full colored version, print out the ladybugs and cut them out. 

2.  Arrange your ladybugs on a 12 x 18” piece of green construction paper and glue down with a glue stick.  Glue your ladybug picnic song to the paper either on the back or to the side.

3. Fill in details of your picnic using crayons or markers.

          How to make it: (For the 3D version)

1. If you are using the black and white version, print out the ladybugs and color with crayons, colored pencils, or markers and cut them out.  If you are using the full-colored version, print out the ladybugs and cut them out. 

2. Laminate your ladybugs and trim away the excess lamination.

3. Take your plastic drink cup and cut down one side.  Remove the top rim and the bottom of the cup.  Next cut 3“ strips of the red drink cup and join the two ends together with tape to create a ring. 

4. Tape your ladybugs to the side of the rings.  This will allow your ladybugs to stand up. Repeat this with all the ladybugs, fire, basket, and the food except the sandwiches – those can be flat.

5. Now you can play with all your ladybugs at the picnic.  Grab a piece of felt to be the grass or a big blanket for them to sit on.
