Spring Flower Pencil Topper
This easy kid’s Spring craft will brighten up any pencil or pen. Make a bunch and jazz up all your pens and pencils or as a gift for a friend. Made with tissue, these flowers can be any color you choose. If you only have white tissue you can make them and color the edges with watercolors when you are done. Try out our other Spring theme projects too!
What you'll need:
-
8 sheets of 8 x 8” tissue paper (any color)
-
Green Pipe cleaner
-
Scissors
-
Pencil
How to make it:
-
Cut eight squares of tissue paper into 8 x 8” sheets. Use any combination of colors and stack them together.
-
Accordion fold the stacked tissue paper. For a spikier-looking flower, make a ¼” fold. For a more flowing flower, make 1-inch folds.
-
Once your paper is folded up, take your scissors and, for a spiky flower, cut a notch out of both ends of the tissue paper. For a more flowing flower, cut a curved or wavy edge on both ends of the tissue.
-
Next, take the pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Wrap one end around the center of the folded paper and twist it together to secure the folds.
-
Carefully, taking one layer at a time, separate the layers pulling the tissue gently towards the center of the flower. Repeat this for both sides of the flower and fluff the tissue to get the look you want.
-
Wrap the end of the pipe cleaner around your pencil or pen and you’re done! These pretty paper flowers also make great decorations for the tops of packages in place of bows, or, even attached to a child’s headband as a fun spring decoration.
