What you'll need:

-
8 ½ x 11” Construction Paper: Orange, Yellow, Red, Black
-
Scissors
-
Glue Stick
-
Cactus or Horse picture

How to Make it:

-
Using the cactus or horse picture, cut out your shape. If you are using this for a large group, trace the pattern onto black construction paper, cut it out, and set it aside. For younger kids, the cactus is perfect because the shape is less detailed to cut out. For older kids whose scissor skills are more advanced, try the horse picture.
-
Take the orange, yellow and red paper and tear strips of the paper. Don’t worry about the irregularity of the sizes because they will look terrific on the paper when glued down.
-
Once you have an assortment of the paper strips, start at the top of your black paper and start gluing your strips to the paper horizontally, overlapping where needed until ¾ of the black paper is covered in the paper strips.
-
Take your black cactus or horse and glue it on top of the paper strips so that it stands on the remaining section of the black paper.
That’s it! The ripped paper texture looks fantastic and the black cutout looks just like it belongs in the desert.
