This camping lantern is an easy-to-make craft for kids and looks great around the campfire, or in the wilds of your backyard tent. It’s just right for little explorers. When you are done camping it can even be used as a night light.

What you'll need:

​

• Empty cleaned and dried plastic Antiseptic wipes container

• Battery operated tea light, glow stick, or push and Click Light  (do not use candles for this)

• Green tissue and paintbrush

• Mod Podge

• Padded flexible garden wire (available at hardware stores)

• Cotton kitchen twine

• Ballpoint pen

• Scissors

• Glue Stick

• Lantern Silhouettes

 

How to make it:

1. Clean out and dry an Antiseptic wipes container.  Remove any glue residue on the outside of the container.

2. Print out and trim around the lantern silhouette pictures.

3. Glue them to the outside of the wipes container on opposite sides.

4. Cover them with 2 layers of Mod Podge, letting them dry between applications.

5. Apply some scraps of green torn tissue with Mod Podge to the bottom edge of the container for added detail.  Let dry.

6. Have an adult, remove the lid of the container and, on opposite sides of the container just below where the lid sits make two punctures in the container carefully with a ballpoint pen.  These holes will be for where the handle will be attached.  Make sure the holes for the handle are between the two pictures.

7. To make the handle:  cut a 12-inch piece of your padded garden wire.  In the center, tie a length of your cotton kitchen twine.  Wrap the twine around the wire covering about 3 inches in the center to be the handle middle.

8. Insert the ends of the wire through the side holes you made and twist them inside the container in a circle to prevent them from slipping out.

9. Place your battery-operated click light in the bottom of your container and replace the lid.  You are now ready for a fun night of camping!
